Update from the FSA’s Mechanical Seals Division
The FSA’s Mechanical Seals Division has prepped and loaded about 90% of their Sealing Sense articles into the KnowledgeBase (fsaknowledgebase.org). In response to user requests, 12 documents in the KnowledgeBase have been identified to be translated into Spanish and the translation work is about 60% complete. Additional requests have been received from Brazil for Portuguese translations but these have not yet been started. FSA’s Gasket Division Works on Industry Standards
The FSA’s Gasket Division has been focused on leakage testing methods for the spiral wound gasket test standard. It was reported that standards FSA-MG-502-05 and FSA-MG-503-06 have both been absorbed by ASME and are now shown on the FSA’s website but identified as “retired”. Standard FSA-NMG-204-02 on steam testing is referenced by other standards and therefore remains available on the website. FSA’s Compression Packing Division Updates Technical Manual
The FSA’s Compression Packing Division was working to complete an update of their technical manual which was approved during the division meeting on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, in Montreal, Quebec. This manual will be published as a joint FSA and ESA document and is available on the FSA website for free viewing. Prepping and uploading of the Compression Packing Sealing Sense articles to FSA’s KnowledgeBase (fsaknowledgebase.org) is about 75% complete. New from the FSA’s Piping Technical Committee
The FSA’s Piping Technical Committee has been following a similar path as the Ducting Technical Committee and content from the Piping Technical Handbook has been loaded onto the SharePoint staging page and is ready to be uploaded to the FSA’s KnowledgeBase. The goal is to go live with this content in the KnowledgeBase by the end of Q1 2019. FSA Ducting Technical Committee Update
The FSA’s Ducting Technical Committee is working on taking the content from the Ducting Technical Manual and repackaging it into appropriate modules for inclusion in the FSA’s KnowledgeBase (fsaknowledgebase.org). The content has been loaded into the SharePoint staging page and will be uploaded to the KnowledgeBase pending a decision to take the Expansion Joint Division repository live in the system. FSA Government Affairs Committee Update
FSA’s Government Affairs Committee met in October 2018 to discuss plans to continue to dialogue with Canadian environmental officials on Methane Emissions throughout the implementation and equivalency process. Work with the US government and API will continue, to promote the FSA as a resource for customers. The committee will continue to build the FSA’s profile in DC with other associations and agencies, while engaging in advocacy platforms with broader industry representatives to promote sealing and containment device solutions. On October 26, in Fort Worth, Texas, the Expansion Joint Division will be discussing the activities of the Ducting Technical Committee, which includes reviewing of material properties and specifications and guideline for application and selection.
